The most important facts in brief
- Visco mattresses are also known as “Tempur mattress” or as mattress with memory foam. Originally the polymer foam inside the mattress was developed by NASA, which shows how innovative this material is.
- Visco mattresses have several advantages. They are ideal for allergy sufferers, they are highly adaptable to the body, you can sleep without making noise, they relieve pressure and thus reduce back pain and they have a long life span.
- Many Visco foam mattresses consist of an upper layer of Visco foam and a lower layer of cold foam. This makes the mattress elastic, but not too elastic. However, there are also mattresses that are made entirely of viscose foam and are therefore super elastic.

Guide: Questions to consider before buying a Visco mattress
For whom is a Visco mattress suitable?
Basically a Visco mattress is suitable for everyone. However, this mattress is particularly suitable for side sleepers due to the innovative material!
Why is a Visco mattress particularly suitable for side sleepers?
This question is easy to answer, it is because of the foam inside the mattress. The first layer of the interior consists of thermoelastic foam. This foam has the special property that it adapts to the body shape. This is why the mattress is also called memory mattress.
For example, if you press your hand into the foam, this hand imprint remains for a few seconds. The viscose foam yields accordingly even under slight pressure, so a resting body can sink into the mattress. The mattress adapts exactly to the body contours of the lying person.
What does a Visco Mattress cost?
There is a wide price range between the Visco mattresses. Depending on the quality of the mattress, the cost varies. The range can be from about 100 to over 1000 Euros.
If you are not a side sleeper, it is no problem to choose a cheaper product. For side sleepers, a more expensive mattress is recommended because it adapts better to the contours of the body.
The prices vary very much from manufacturer to manufacturer. The prices listed in the table above are guidelines that you can use as a guide when buying a Visco mattress.
Where can I buy a Visco Mattress?
Visco mattresses are available in bedding stores as well as in furniture or mattress stores.
According to our research, most Visco mattresses are sold through these online shops:
All Visco Mattresses that we present to you on our site have a link to at least one of these shops. Once you have found a mattress that you like, you can strike right away.
In what size should I buy a Visco mattress?
A Visco mattress is available in every conventional mattress store, but usually only in the classic sizes, which are the following:
90 x 200 cm
140 x 200 cm
160 x 200 cm
180 x 200 cm
200 x 200 cm
If you need a mattress longer than 200 cm, you usually have to order it separately because many stores do not have it in stock. It just takes a little longer, but it is possible to adapt the mattress to your needs.
What are the alternatives to a Visco mattress?
In the table below we explain possible alternatives to the Visco mattress:
Every mattress has certain advantages that should not be despised. Nevertheless, the Visco mattress seems to be superior to the others in many criteria. It is not without reason that the Visco Mattress is one of the most popular mattress types on the market.
Decision: What types of Visco Mattress are available and which one is right for you?
If you want to buy a Visco mattress, there are two alternatives you can choose between:
- Visco mattress with cold foam core
- Visco mattress without cold foam core
Both types have a different sleep feeling and are suitable for different types of sleep. In the following section we will present the advantages and disadvantages of these two types.
What distinguishes a Visco mattress with cold foam core and what are its advantages and disadvantages?
The Visco Mattress has several advantages.
On the one hand, this type of mattress is particularly allergy-friendly because the visco foam does not allow mites and dust to settle.
In addition, due to the high sensitivity with which the viscoelastic mattress reacts to pressure and heat, the mattress nestles against the warm and heavy body. In the other places the shape of the mattress remains unchanged. Sensitive parts of the body are relieved by this pressure distribution. This can prevent bedsores in people in need of care.
Another advantage is that viscoelastic mattresses are characterized by extremely high point elasticity. Especially for orthopaedic problems, but also for circulatory problems, the point pressure relief of the mattress has a very positive effect.
It is also very suitable for quiet sleepers, because the mattress does not make any noise. Not even if the lying position is changed.
High lying comfort, very suitable for quiet sleepers
Very suitable for people who freeze quickly
very suitable for allergic and asthmatic persons
Very suitable for people with orthopaedic problems
Not well suited for cold sleepers
Not well suited for restless sleepers
Not well suited for people who sweat at night
However, the Visco mattress with cold foam core also has a few disadvantages. If you sweat a lot at night, for example, the mattress is not recommended for you because body heat can cause heat accumulation. This can be the case especially with models that are coated on one side. Due to its thick, less breathable viscose layer on the upper side, the heat cannot escape. A solution to this problem could be a mattress topper that absorbs the moisture.
People who like to sleep in cold rooms will not be happy with the Visco mattress either, because the mattress does not become elastic due to the missing warmth. The mattress does not adapt to the body contours in cold rooms.
Another disadvantage is that the Visco mattress with cold foam is very unfriendly to movement, because the mattress is not able to immediately return to its original shape when the lying position is changed.
What distinguishes a Visco mattress with exclusively Visco foam and what are its advantages and disadvantages?
The Visco mattress without cold foam core is a particularly soft and very elastic mattress. You must definitely be aware of this before buying, because this mattress is not the right choice for everyone.
The mattress has several advantages. One positive aspect is, for example, that the mattress is particularly adaptable due to its high elasticity. Once you have decided on a position your back and waist will be perfectly embedded and sprung.
This advantage is particularly suitable for side sleepers, because this type of sleep must be absorbed by the mattress.
ideal for side sleepers
lower material density
only suitable for warm rooms
not suitable for active sleepers
However, a mattress without a cold foam core is not suitable for rooms that are too cold or too warm. The mattress becomes very soft in rooms that are too warm due to the low density of the material.
Another disadvantage of the mattress is that it is very difficult to adapt to a changing sleeping position. Accordingly, this is definitely the wrong type of mattress for active sleepers.
Purchase criteria: You can compare and evaluate a Visco mattress based on these factors
In the following we will show you which criteria you can use to decide between the many possible Visco mattresses.
The criteria you can use to compare Visco mattresses:
- Mattress topper
In the following paragraphs we will explain what is important for the individual criteria.
It is important to clean the mattress correctly and regularly because the Visco Mattress reacts to heat.
We will now show you how to clean your mattress properly in 5 small steps:
- Regular turning and airing of the mattress
Regular ventilation of the bedroom
Removable, washable mattress cover
After washing, allow the cover to dry completely to avoid mould stains
Dusting through a clothes roller, which is more gentle than a vacuum cleaner.
If you carry out these points regularly, you will have a lot of fun and pleasure with your Visco mattress for a long time.
To be able to use a mattress as an allergy sufferer, it depends on the mattress core.
If your Visco mattress has a cold foam core, you can easily use it as an allergy sufferer.
If your Visco mattress does not have a cold foam core, we do not recommend a Visco mattress because the Visco foam is only the top layer of the mattress.
The lifetime of mattresses is limited.
Good mattresses have a durability of about 10 years. Well-known manufacturers usually offer a guarantee for this period.
The density, for example, has a considerable influence on the service life of the mattress. If the density is too low, the material will not return to its original shape quickly enough after lying down. On the other hand, too high a density puts too much strain on the material and therefore the material does not return to its original shape.
Before buying, you should always make sure that your body weight is not too low or too high for the mattress. Furthermore, regular cleaning ensures a longer life.
A Mattress Topper is a comfortable mattress topper. The Topper serves to increase lying comfort and also ensures better hygiene.
The Mattress Topper is very easy to use. It is simply placed on the mattress, which prevents sweat and moisture from entering the mattress.
The topper is placed between the mattress and the slatted frame to protect the mattress from wear and damage caused by friction of the slatted frame.
Mattress toppers can be made of many different materials, for example
- Cold foam mattress topper
- Visco foam mattress topper
- Gel foam mattress topper
The special thing about a Visco foam mattress topper is that it is made of Visco foam and therefore has the same pressure-relieving effect as a Visco mattress. As the body temperature rises, the topper becomes softer, just like the mattress, and adapts better to the body contours.
A Visco mattress is only as good as its slatted frame. So don’t start saving on the slatted frame, because a Visco mattress can only develop its full effect with the right slatted frame. A good slatted frame prevents pressure points and material fatigue.
It is important to buy the right slatted frame for the mattress. The perfect slatted frame should fit the size of the mattress and have at least 28 slats or plate frames.
Trivia: Worth knowing facts about the Visco Mattress
For which sleeping position is a Visco mattress suitable?
If you are a stomach sleeper or a side sleeper, a Visco mattress is perfect for you.
As an active sleeper or back sleeper, we advise you not to use a Visco mattress because the texture of the mattress does not suit your sleeping position.
- Side sleepers The right mattress for side sleepers should be flexible and elastic so that the shoulders and pelvis can sink in softly so that the spine maintains its natural curvature and is relieved. It is also important that the mattress provides sufficient support for the waist. The Visco Mattress meets these factors and is therefore the ideal choice for side sleepers!
- Back sleepers The right mattress for back sleepers should be point-elastic and provide optimum pressure relief so that the intervertebral discs can regenerate. Above all, the back should be optimally supported by the mattress so that it does not sag. The Visco mattress is also best suited for the back sleeper due to its back and joint protecting properties.
- Active sleepers or stomach sleepers As active sleepers or stomach sleepers, we advise against the Visco mattress, because the spine is overstretched when the mattress is installed. As an active sleeper you are restricted in your movements because the Visco Mattress is too flexible.
Which mattress is suitable for you is also shown in the following video:
Does a Visco mattress help against back pain?
A mattress that is too hard usually causes too much movement during the night, whereas on too soft mattresses the spine sagging and the vertebrae cannot relax properly.
A Visco mattress provides soft support but at the same time the elastic Visco foam also supports the vertebrae.
If you do not want to buy a new mattress, a Viscomat mattress topper is the first step against back pain and is therefore highly recommended as a start. In the long term, however, a Visco mattress is recommended.
Is the Visco Mattress the right mattress for the motorhome?
The Visco Mattress fits into a motorhome, but you should pay attention to which region you drive with your motorhome.
If you drive to regions that are too warm and humid, the Visco Mattress will not tolerate this well. If the mattress is exposed to warm and humid temperatures for too long, the mattress will become too soft and will no longer adapt to the body contours.
On the other hand, a Visco mattress does not adapt to the body contours at all in too cool temperatures.
Therefore a Visco mattress is only conditionally suitable for a motorhome.
